‘Estamos Aqui (We Are Here)’ is a short experimental film that tells the story of Jairo, a 15-year-old boy who crossed the US border from Guatemala. The film is composed of analog footage filmed in collaboration by the artist and the protagonist, as well as photographs and found footage sourced online. ‘Estamos Aqui (We Are Here)’ focuses on the experience that many immigrants face in New York City, from their lives in the work field to their relationships with their families back in their places of origin. Feelings of alienation and dislocation across the overall film merge with a sense of hope and warmth that accompanies the creation of this work.
